Describe an old thing that your family has kept for a long time.(描述你家保留了很长时间的一件物品).

Task:

Describe an old thing that your family has kept for a long time.

You should say:

what the object is

where it came from

how long it has been in your family

Sample answer:

I bought an exquisite Murano glass figurine of Pegasus(穆拉诺人马座玻璃小雕像) when I traveled in Venice.

It is about twelve inches high, really heavy and gorgeously-wrought sculpted (错彩镂金雕刻)glass with real gold spun through the wings, mane and tail. I fell in love with it when I saw it at the glass factory. It was said to be 50 years old and thus hideously(可怕地) expensive, but I rationalized (使合理化)that it would be my one souvenir from that first European trip. So I put it on my credit card and had it shipped to China.

My precious(珍贵的) artwork arrived a few weeks after I returned home. I unwrapped(打开)it and placed it carefully on a bookshelf in my new apartment. I stood and admired it, then went to open the blinds(百叶窗)so the sun could hit it, miscalculated(算错) my reach and knocked Pegasus right onto my newly waxed hardwood floor.

Of course it broke, but not completely. That was the worst part. Both wings broke off and one front leg was shattered. But my mother thought it might be salvageable(可挽救的). She found a glass artist in Shanghai who did his best to repair it. And he did a fair job. But I could never see it the same way again. When I looked at it, I only saw how lovely it had been before my clumsiness(笨拙的)ruined it. It hurt to have broken Pegasus in my living room. So I packed it away.

I still have it. Five years later. I have never re-opened the box, but I can't bring myself to throw it away.

1.Antiques are timeless(永恒的) treasures that will spruce up(把...装扮得漂亮) any home. With a variety of shapes, styles, colors, patterns(图案), and materials available, the market for antique furniture(家具)can match even the pickiest(最挑剔的) person's taste. Before purchasing(购买)antique furniture,, it is important to first consider how the pieces will complement(填充)a home or room. If the decoration(装饰)is contemporary(现代的), an ornate Victorian object might not create the desired(理想的)effect.

2.Pride and Prejudice is a novel of manners by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. The story follows the main character, Elizabeth Bennet, as she deals with issues of manners(礼仪), upbringing(教养), morality(道德), education, and marriage in the society of the landed gentry of the British Regency(英国摄政时期风格的). Elizabeth is the second of five daughters of a country gentleman, Mr. Bennet, living in Longbourn.

Page 2 of a letter from Jane Austen to her sister Cassandra (11 June 1799) in which she first mentions Pride and Prejudice, using its working title First Impressions.

Set in England in the early 19th century, Pride and Prejudice tells the story of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet's five unmarried daughters after the rich and eligible(称心如意的)Mr. Bingley and his status-conscious friend, the even more rich and eligible Mr. Darcy, have moved into their neighbourhood. While Bingley takes an immediate liking to the eldest Bennet daughter, Jane, Darcy is disdainful(不屑)of local society and repeatedly clashes(冲突)with the Bennets' lively second daughter, Elizabeth.
