Describe someone you wanted to be similar to when you were growing up.
You should say:
Who the person was;
How you got to know this person;
What impressed you most about this person;
And explain why you wanted to be like this person.

22. 儿时偶像

The person I’ve looked up to the most146 since I was young is my uncle147. He’s a high school history teacher. I live practically within spitting distance of his house and I hang out with him a lot, so it’s safe to say I know him pretty well.

In my childhood memory148, he was the most knowledgeable person in my family. I used to love watching TV with him, especially some historical dramas, because he could often go into detail
about some interesting historical stories that we had never learned in our history class. I always listened to him with relish. It was as fun as listening to some gossip.

Under his influence, I used to dream to be a teacher like him. When I was young, I stopped by his school once and saw him teaching at the podium. I was blown away by seeing all the students listening to him so carefully. I mean, they were practically hanging off his every word. I felt it was so cool. So back then, when someone asked me what I wanted to do in the future, I always said I wanted to be a teacher like my uncle.

Till now, my uncle is still my role model149. I hope I can be as knowledgeable as him and have great teaching skills. Plus, it’s really a good career choice to be a teacher in China.

After all, it’s an honorable occupation and has decent pay.
