Some people are concerned about whether it is good for children to stay far away from their families and go to boarding school. Others suggest that children should stay around their families and attend a day school. What is your opinion?
Schooling plays a crucial role in every individual’s life, for which reason it has attracted most of attention from parents. Amongst the education-related topics, the latest one is whether children should be advised to attend a boarding school or a day school. In the present social context, I suppose that the boarding school is more valuable a choice.
Boarding schools offer an international and intercultural setting, which adds a unique dimension to students’ qualifications preceding graduation. Students at boarding schools mostly come from other countries, for their parents are newly-arrived settlers and have no time attending to them. The full communication with different cultures early in their life can get students familiar with the complexity of social environment. In the foreseeable future, they can suit themselves without difficulty for different surrounding.
Meanwhile, boarding schools provide a comprehensive range of general courses and extracurricular programmes for students to choose, which mould them into all-round graduates. Boarding schools value one of their distinctive traditions, that is, meeting academic targets set by students from different background. In that way, students have a relatively higher possibility to keep in touch with diverse disciplines, which can broaden their mindset. Not surprisingly, graduates from boarding schools appear to be more adaptable and resourceful.
The last, but also the most significant advantage of a boarding school is to shore up students’ self-reliance and independence. Living far from their families, students find nobody to lean against but themselves. Apart from everyday life, they engage in a variety of sports programmes to enhance their physical ability. Moreover, community and school service enable them to practice volunteer work.
In brief, boarding schools afford intellectually curious students a range of benefits, when parents cannot squeeze time out looking after them. The well-structured curriculum, combined with unique environment, can advantage students in their life.

Boarding school has a long-established reputation along the history of education institution. In recent years, its fascination is gradually withering, for a variety of transports enable students to shuttle between home and school every day. In my opinion, although boarding schools still find their way to exist, their entrenched weaknesses hinder them to make a comeback.
The most undesirable effect boarding schools can impose on students comes that they exacerbate students’ initial feeling of detachment from their families. Although boarding schools have never failed to realise such a problem, their effort proves fruitless before students’ emotional bond with their family. However thoughtful the service staff has provided, students cannot wait to miss their home after the night falls. Let alone some students are constantly bullied by their peers at school.
In addition to homesick, students suffer the loss of their free time, when studying at board school. As distinct from day schools students, boarding school students should take care of their daily life themselves, including doing laundry, cleaning dormitory, and even cooking. Meanwhile, extracurricular activities and athletic events can congest their schedule after classes or at weekend. Consequently, students have no time reading books, and committing to their hobby.
The above-mentioned shortcomings have explained why boarding schools are losing their ground, but I should admit that they don’t fail to be an advisable option for those spoilt children. In general, boarding schools have a set of stringent regulations to tighten management over students. Even minor infractions in living habits can lead to expulsion, so students after years of exercise can become well-disciplined and organised. But this function can evolve into physical punishment, and adversely affect student’s psychological health.
To summarise, boarding schools are suitable for a certain students, but in most cases, day schools are favourable.
