You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write at least 250 words.

Although teenagers of all secondary schools (and of colleges) are under no obligation to do community service, an amount of volunteering on their part are beneficial to themselves and to the community at the same time. If nothing else, by participating in such extracurricular activities as helping the poor and the sick in their free time, they can gain important knowledge that cannot be learned in the classroom. Generally speaking, community service is an educational experience, a social experience, and perhaps a lot of fun, too.
It makes educational sense for students to understand that part of being a useful person is about helping others who are struggling. Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community. In fact, for a community to be whole and healthy, it must be based on compassion and concern for each other. Unpaid community service is significant because the strong have a responsibility to provide support for the weak. This is crucial to high school or college experience as it is that kind of knowledge which cannot be learned from a book. Therefore, it may be expected that every community service moment is memorable.
In the social context, young people with experiences in community work are given the opportunities to have an understanding of human relationships and social vulnerabilities. Through service work, they are meeting the community's urgent problems face-to-face. Community work is a moral cause because it is not only an act of generosity but also an act of love for their neighbors. Further being unpaid work, it becomes a noble cause since this kind of community service is not compulsory and asks for nothing in return. In their free time, teenagers can benefit from finding themselves stronger than ever, being capable of doing worthy tasks. The community, of course, can as well benefit from this positive , voluntary power.
For the young people, the fun of feeling at heart that they are stronger than they could ever imagine is underlined by their experiences which are rewarding, both educationally and socially. Indeed, in every community there is work to be done; and in every heart there is the power to do it. When a sense of community is being felt as an act of responsibility rather than an act of generosity, blessed are the giving and the receiving. (Essay created by Jeenn Lee Hsieh)
