前任考官Chris的评价是:“It's an excellent piece of writing. You have addressed the task very well and made good clear arguments. The writing and vocabulary is brilliant.
You should spend 40 minutes on this task.
Write about the following topic:
In many countries, good schools and medical facilities are only available in cities but not in rural areas. Some people think new teachers and doctors should work in rural areas for a few years while others think everyone should be free to choose where they work. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least 250 words.
Answer:
It is a commonly accepted fact that in a number of countries quality educational institutes and hospitals are only accessible to city dwellers but not to rural people. To alleviate this problem, some people claim that junior teachers and doctors should first work in rural areas for some years whereas other people hold the view that people are entitled to opt for their working locations. Before presenting my own point of view I will first take a closer examination of each aforementioned perspective.
Evidently, sending teachers and doctors to rural areas would be beneficial to ameliorate resource allocation and has become a practice in some countries. Take Australia for example. As a large proportion of its territory belongs to sparsely populated areas which lack medical facilities, its government years ago enacted apolicy that by agreeing to work in designated areas for certain years, doctors from other countries could immigrate to Australia within a short time frame. And this policy has helped ease the professional shortage in remote areas. Another benefit of novice professionals working in rural areas, is the opportunity of gaining hands-on career exposure. As experience is often a prerequisite for securing a decent position in cities, working in small clinics or schools outside cities is usually regarded as a viable strategy for accumulating experience. In this case, it is also good foranindividual’s career advancement.
Nevertheless, from a human rights perspective, it is understandable that some people hold that everyone should have the freedom to work anywhere provided that it is legally allowed. Furthermore, the standard of living in rural areas is generally not as high as that in cities. Committed to working in such areas young people would have to endure various inconveniences and emotional discomfort, such asloneliness and distress. All of these represent a sacrifice that a young adult should not be obliged to make.
After carefully balancing the arguments of each point of view, I tend to think thatit is advantageous, both socially and individually, for young professionals to work in rural areas. Although they have to endure hardships, these tough experiences can strengthen their character, improve them as doctors because working in less developed environments with minimal equipment could enhance their skills. In addition, if some rewards and privileges could be offered to rural professionals by governments, people would be more willing to accept such arrangements.
