题目 | Recently you read a book about a place. Some information about the place is incorrect.
You need to write: l Why/how do you know this place? l What is the incorrect information? l Why it is important to correct the wrong information? |
范文 | Dear Sir/Madam, I’m writing this letter to point out two mistakes I found in a book named Paradise On Earth—Suzhou published by your company. The book introduces many famous places of interests and tourist attractions in Suzhou, however, there are two obvious mistakes I must tell you. Suzhou is not far away from my hometown, about one hour train distance and it is a famous tourist city in China. I’ve been there many times since I was a child. I can say that I’m quite familiar with this city. One mistake was in the preface, in which Suzhou is described as a city famous for its museums, but in fact, Suzhou is an ancient town famous for its historic architectures, to be precise, classic gardens. Another mistake is that the name of the lake in Suzhou is supposed to be Taihu, but written as Xihu, a famous lake in Hangzhou. The description of the lake is right but the name is totally wrong, which means the content and the name does not match. I strongly suggest that you correct these two pieces information on the book as they misguide tourists and may cause visitors’ disappointment. For example, for those who have great interest in traditional Chinese buildings, they will miss the beautiful city of Suzhou because they are told that this city is famous for museums. And for those who are attracted by Xihu Lake will be disappointed to find out this is not the lake they are looking for. If you have any further questions about Suzhou, please feel free to discuss with me. Looking forward to your reply and amendments.
Kind regards,
Shirley |

| Some people believe that private schools should not be allowed because it is an unfair advantage. What is your opinion? |
范文 | Some people argues that it is unreasonable for private school to exist as students in these school are enjoying more advantages than students in other schools. However, I completely disagree with this idea.
Firstly, Education is a kind of resource, and people pay to obtain resource. It is similar to purchasing a product at the market. People pay more because they expect products with high quality and functions. And private schools are usually more expensive than public schools just because they have the ability to provide better education. Parents have spent a great amount of money on education for their children, their kids are supposed to enjoy a decent education resource than what they can get from other schools.
Secondly, the supplements private schools provide are mostly focused on extra-curricular activities, aiming to enhance their ability in a well-around aspects instead of increasing their score in the final examination that students from all schools should take. For example, many private schools have sports games, in which students need to have good physical capability and to cooperate with other members. And their teamwork ability is trained as well as their bodies.
Finally, cancelling private schools are unfair to the poor, as there will be less vacancies for children from impecunious families if all students have to go to public schools. Children with well-off family background can have an alternative choice, which can provide more places in public schools for students who have no choice.
In conclusion, to some extent, children in private schools can get more benefits as their parents paid more for their education opportunity, however, it is not beneficial to the society as a whole to forbid private schools. |
