题目 | You need to give a representation for a conference, but you want to change the topic of a conference to be held next month. Write a letter to the manager of the conference In your letter: l Explain why you want to change the topic l What the topic will be about l What equipment is needed for the representation
|
范文 | Dear sir or Madam,
I am writing to ask if there is any possibility that I could change the topic for the academic conference to be held next month.
My name is James Nolan, junior faculty member of Cultural Studies. I have been planning and preparing the topic “The Representation of Female Gaze in the movie The Full Monty” for two weeks, which I firmly believe is a necessary counterpoint to Male Gaze that has been criticized by feminism for a long time. However, the other day headmaster called and thought it could be inappropriate since the conference would be recorded and uploaded online for a larger potential audience’s references, and the main characters in the film are “strippers”, which may cause unnecessary troubles.
Therefore, I believe it would be better to change the topic to “Psychoanalysis and Manipulated Subject in Inception”, which I have planned to talk about at the next conference. Inception has a large audience and devoted fans around the world, which I believe would be easier to strike a chord with them.
As for the equipment, it would be great if a group of 4 musicians are provided because music deepens the experience and make more emotional resonance. Your earliest response would be highly appreciated.
Yours sincerely |

| Some children spend too much time watching TV. What do you think caused this and how to solve the problem |
范文 | Today a large number of youngsters are attracted by TV programs and they often spend excessive time on TV watching. I believe this trend can be damaging to these children’s growth and it is necessary to figure out how to address this problem.
One drawback associated with watching TV excessively is that it has an adverse impact on children's study and can even make them less interested in participating in other wholesome outdoor activities. TV watching can easily distract their attention from school assignments, particularly when they are not supervised by their parents. They are normally so addicted to those programs that pay little attention to their learning tasks, which may lead to poor grades. Besides, too much time on TV will probably affects children's participation in some interactive activities such as reading, singing or communicating with others which are good for their brain development.
What is worse is that excessive time on TV viewing will harm children's physical health. They would more like to sit in front of TV and keep their eyes on the screen for hours than to go outside and play sports with their peers. As a result, there is a high possibility for them of suffering obesity, poor eyesight and fatigue, all of which can make them less energetic in schooling and lose their confidence in learning over time.
As excessive TV viewing affects young generation negatively, it is of importance to take measures to mitigate this problem.one effective way can be to impose time limits on their watching TV. For example, parents can tell their children that they can watch TV for 1-2 hours only after they have finished their homework, which is able to protect their eyesight and encourage them to study. Apart from this, parents can also choose to take their children to the outside and play games with them, this can shift the attention of these kids from TV programs to exercise and is beneficial to their physical and mental health.
In conclusion, being addicted to TV viewing is harmful to young children. To solve this problem successfully, parents plays an important part in supervising and helping the youngsters. |
